F is for Family (saison 5)

Season 5 covers the fall and Christmas season of 1974, and picks up where Season 4 left off -- the joyous birth of baby Megan and the sad death of Frank's father, Big Bill. Frank spends the season trying to process his grief and deal with the crushing disappointment that he was never able to reach closure with his Dad before he passed. To that end, he spends the season on a futile search to discover the meaning of Big Bill's cryptic last words, hoping the answer will give him peace. Sue sees the sadness of Frank's loss as a reason to try to patch up the differences between her, her parents and her estranged brother Louis. Meanwhile, the Murphy kids react to the death of their grandfather in different ways. Bill by getting in trouble with the law, Maureen by becoming involved with her friend Bridget in the occult, and Kevin by becoming clingy and possessive with Alice, leading to their breakup. Elsewhere, Bob Pogo steps away from the airline to pursue his dream of opening a fried chicken skin restaurant, Rosie engages in a political war with the corrupt Mayor Tangenti, and Vic cleans up his life and embraces his newfound role of single father with the fervor he brought to his former life as a drug and sex addict. It all ends with an epic motorcycle jump at the airport by bad boy stunt rider Buster Thunder Jr. and a Christmas Day where Frank finally comes to terms with how his inability to let go of the past led him to be the flawed husband and father we've seen since Season One.
